The Germantown District (GSSD) welcomed Interim Executive Director Jamar L. Kelly in October 2018. Jamar brings a breadth of experience in both the private and public sectors, including and most recently holding a position with the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) with the State of Pennsylvania. In the position that he is held with the DCED, he was responsible for working with local governments and municipalities to improve their capacities in financial administration, public safety and public works, community planning, municipal management, and code enforcement as they relate to economic development.
Mr. Kelly is a Germantown native who attended public schools in the neighborhood before obtaining a Bachelors’ Degree in Political Science from West Chester University, and a Master’s Degree in Administration, specializing in Nonprofit Management from Trinity University in Washington DC.
Jamar brings with him connections in the private sector from positions in Washington DC, and from the public sector which includes managing the daily operations of a facility for behaviorally challenged youth and working as a Legislative Aid for a PA House Representative.
Ready, Willing and Able (RWA) also known as ‘The Men in Blue’, are our contract cleaners who work hard 5 days a week to clean the area and help maintain an increasingly cleaner district that is becoming free of liter and sidewalk trash. RWA also assists the the organization by reporting to the Executive Director, findings of grafitti in the district, short dumping and other violations of city code within the district.
The crew that works in Germantown under a supervisor that oversees a crew of four men, who are learning skills that will help them as they continue on their path to self-sufficiency.. RWA, is a non-profit organization working to break the cycles of homelessness, addiction, and criminal recidivism by providing paid transitional work, occupational training, housing, and comprehensive support services to homeless individuals. When you see the ‘Men in Blue’ give them a wave and shout “hi!”. They provide a tremendous service to the district and have made a significant impact on the cleanliness of the Avenues.
