Award Categories and Nominations/Voting

The GSSD seeks to celebrate all who are making a positive impact in Germantown because that impact affects the work we do and helps our businesses succeed. Our awards are: 

The Julie Baranauskas Community Advocate Award: This is given to someone who is leading the charge to bring programs, services to the community or leading the discussion on an issue related to the neighborhood or has done a project that made an impact in the district/Germantown. This is named after our board member who passed away in 2016, and was a stalwart leading and advocating in and for Germantown for many many years.  SUBMIT A NOMINATION for the Julie Baranauskas Community Advocate Award

The Big Impact in Germantown (BIG) Award: This is given to a business in the district that has made a positive impact. This can be related to cleaning, beautification, marketing/advertising, improving their business signage and/or increasing shoppers to the district.  SUBMIT A NOMINATION for the BIG Award

The Germantown Young Catalyst Award: This is given to someone (or a group) age 18 and younger, who has made a positive impact on the community as related to littering, sustainability, gardening/beautification. SUBMIT A NOMINATION for the Germantown Young Catalyst Award

The Changemaker Award: This is given to someone of distinguished age (over the age of 55) who has led organizations (both formal and informal groups) and positive change in the district/neighborhood. SUBMIT A NOMINATION for the Changemaker Award

 

Here's how it works:

Round 1: This is completely open voting. Take a look at the categories, and nominate the person, business or group that you think best personifies or is the most deserving of the ward in each category. This round is all up to you - so submit those making a difference in Germantown.

Submissions for Round 1 are only done electronically. If you don't have access to a computer, you can stop by the following places to use a computer for voting:

  • The One Less Foundation - 38 Maplewood Mall, 1st Fl (check their website for hours)
  • Joseph E. Coleman Regional Library - 68 W. Chelten Ave (check their website for hours)

Round 1 is open from: September 18th - September 29th at 8pm EST.

Round 2: After open nominations are closed, we'll tally up the nominations and the top 3 in each category will make the finals. Those who make the finals will be posted here for electronic voting and will also be available for voting in several businesses throughout the district for paper voting.

  • State Rep. Stephen Kinsey's Office - 5952 Germantown Ave. 
  • Germantown Espresso Bar - 26 Maplewood Mall
  • Historic Germantown - 5501 Germantown Ave. 

Round 2 is open from October 4th - October 25th at 8pm EST.
